Wedding Sherwani Outfits for Bridegroom

A lot of our readers are bride-to-bes, and while most bridegrooms do not spend much time researching the type of clothes they will be wearing on their wedding day, I thought it would be a good idea to have some articles that focused on the bridegroom because the brides will be doing the research for them!

So here is an article that contains some ideas for bridal sherwani for the bridegroom.

The sherwani is a long coat-like top that is worn with pants. Although the sherwani a national dress for Pakistan, it is also a popular choice for most bridegrooms all over South Asia, especially in India.

When picking a sherwani for the bridegroom, it would be best to pick something that is complementary to the bride's wedding outfit. I have noticed that bridal boutiques do not sell matching - his and hers - wedding outfits. So it is imperative that the bride and bridegroom coordinate their wedding outfit shopping. Or simply let the bride take charge of it all!


Blue Galore

For some reason, blue is not a popular colour for wedding outfits in South Asia. But I think blue is a great choice, such as these in the pictures.













Traditional Reds



Red is a traditional colour for wedding outfits in South Asia. Having embroidery work on the sherwani coat, as in the picture on left, is a great way to make the outfit stand out.




Ivory and Whites

Sherwanis can come in three pieces. The one on the right has an inner vest piece that is red in colour and the tunic coat is in white. Excellent way to add some colour to the outfit without having it overwhelm the overall look. This would be nicely paired with a bride's red wedding outfit.

The ivory sherwani on the left is covered with exquisite silver embroidery work. Nice choice indeed.

Wedding Lehnga Colour and Design Ideas

In South Asia, the traditional colour of choice for the bride's wedding dress is red. Brides wear the bridal saree or the bridal lehnga (a two-piece top and skirt outfit, see picture on the left) on their wedding day. Some brides wear the lehnga on their engagement and a saree on their wedding day. While others wear both on their wedding day, choosing to have multiple change of outfits through the day.

Whatever the choice - be it the saree or lehgna - most South Asian brides will choose the traditional red colour for their wedding outfits. But a few brides are breaking tradition by picking wedding lehnga outfits of a different colour. This trend has been helped by Bollywood films - those of you who follow the Bollywood films will notice the actresses wearing a hue of colours (not red!) for their scenes involving weddings.

So in light of this new trend, I have compiled a few wedding lehngas that are anything but red! I hope you gain some inspiration from the compilation for your own weddings.


Purple The Colour of Royalty

The colour purple has been associated with royalty from the times of the Roman Empire, Ancient China to Medievial Europe. Today, the colour is favoured by many people because the colour in human psychology is still associated with royalty, regality, and nobility.

This purple coloured wedding lehnga is exquisite - exudes a regal look for any bride wanting a spectacular wedding event.

Sea-Green Pleasing Colour
The colour green is associated with calmness and serenity. It has a refreshing effect, which is why there are such things called "green rooms" for people in television to relax in before going on stage to perform.

This sea-green wedding lehnga is perfect for an evening wedding reception event by the pool, or the sea. The lehnga blouse piece is a long tunic, instead of the typical short blouse. This is a unique look indeed - the material is also shimmering so there is no need for gaudy sequins or mirrors.


Beautiful Ivory Colour

A lot of brides in the West choose to wear white for their weddings. But in some South Asian cultures, white is not considered an auspicious colour for a wedding. So if you want something light, ivory with gold designs would be an ideal choice, such as in the picture. A friend actually had something like this tailored for her wedding, and it was great looking. Instead of the dupatta in the picture though, I would encourage looking for a more heavily embroidered duppata, which would set off the simplicity of the ivory wedding lehnga.


Shimmering Blue Colour

Blue is the color of the sky and the ocean, and exudes peace and tranquility. It is the opposite of red. Blue as a choice of wedding lehnga is not very popular in South Asia. In fact, I had a hard time finding a bridal lehnga that was blue. However, I think blue is a great colour for a wedding outfit. If one is bucking the trend, then why not blue? This lehnga has beadwork and embroidery. I would prefer it more with three quartered sleeves.

Fit For A Bride - Exercise Shape-Up Tips

You've planned for the wedding dress, the caterers, the flowers, the wedding decoration and so on. But have you planned for yourself - here are some tips on how to make sure you look your best on your wedding day!

Here are three of my favourite exercises that can help you shape up for the big day - focus is on the upper back and the area under the arms, the shoulders, and the core region.






Incline Lateral Raise


This exercise works the middle shoulder area, so you will look good in an off-shoulder wedding gown.

How to do it: Holding a dumbbell in your right hand (1) rest the left side of your body on a fitball (or any stable surface that inclines about 30 degrees), right leg in front of the left. Keeping the abdominal region tight to protect the back and to ensure that you don't use momentum, raise the dumbbell till your right arm is perpendicular to the torso. (2) Keep the elbow slightly bent throughout the exercise. Return to start and repeat. Do three sets of 15 to 20 repetitions on each side.


Boat Pose

This exercise tones the abdominal muscles, which will make you look trim in most styles of wedding gowns, particularly those fitted at the waist, like a corset wedding gown.

This exercise is also good for the digestive and hormone systems, and relieves tension.

How to do it: Lie on the floor with knees bent and feet on the floor. (1) Inhale, hold your breath and raise your chest (2) and raise your feet off the floor. (3) Keeping your spine long and shoulders relaxed, breathe normally and hold this position for between five and 10 counts. Exhale and return to the start position. Do 10 repititions.

Dumbbell Pullover

This exercise tones the area under the arms, firms the upper back and makes you look great in off-shoulder, bustier or low-back gowns.

How to do it: Lie on the bench with feet on the floor. Hold a dumbbell in the palms of both hands, with the thumbs surrounding the handle, (1) and extend the arms over your head. Inhale and lower the dumbbell behind your head, bending the elbows slightly. (2) Exhale, and return to the start position. Start with four sets of 15 repetitions and gradually build up to four to five sets of 15 to 20 repetitions.
